The Holiday Toy Shoppe
An annual program sponsored by Glade Valley Community Services, Inc. The Toy Shoppe is a community wide effort to assist families living in the Walkersville / Woodsboro and surrounding Glade Valley area needing assistance in providing a better Christmas for their children than might otherwise be possible.
The program depends to a great degree on the generosity of local churches, organizations, business and residents to provide the requested items. GVCS provides funding for the purchase of items, where needed, should community donations prove insufficient.
Applications for Toy Shoppe assistance are ALWAYS taken in October and applicants should be on the lookout for dates and times.
To qualify you must live in the Walkersville and Walkersville Feeder School area and have proof of both residency and financial need.
We are doing curbside pickup on Wednesday, December 9th. You will get a time slot after we receive your application and documentation.
Holiday Toy Shoppe Donations
If you want to donate to our Holiday Toy Shoppe we have made an electronic list of needs and would be happy to send you the list.
If you would like to adopt a family/child we can make that happen as well! Just let us know how many children you would like to “adopt”! We only provide for the children in the family!
An example below gives you an idea of what ONE child’s wish list would include:
2 outfits (usually pants and a top), one pack of underwear/diapers and one pack of socks. Hat and gloves and 2-3 toys (usually the clients get to shop for their toys, but this year we have to choose for them).
If there are Middle and High school children in the family, we provide gift cards only for them. GVCS will be providing the gift cards thanks to monetary gifts we have received.
Please contact us with questions or to “adopt” a child this year! You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 301-845-0213 and leave a message.
Glade Valley Community Services thanks the community for your generous support in making spirits brighter for those in need this Holiday Season.
With your support we were able to help 73 families in 2019 with clothing (450 items), toys (400), books (200), a coat for every family member and gift cards for our teens.
For 2020, with your support, we were able to help 74 families and 211 children, ages 0-18. They received 242 outfits, 121 homemade stockings stuffed with fun items, and 360 toys and books. Ninety (90) middle and high school students received gift cards, swetshirts, books and more. Many families won raffle items of grocery store gift cards, dining gift cards/coupons, and hair salon coupons (for free services).
