Glade Valley Community Services, Inc. (GVCS) is a local, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing services to residents of Walkersville / Woodsboro and the surrounding Glade Valley area in Frederick County, Maryland. GVCS was founded in 2004 and was granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in September 2005
Our Mission
To meet the needs of families and individuals in the Walkersville, Woodsboro and surrounding Glade Valley area of Frederick County, Maryland through the coordination of donations of time, talent, money and other resources.
History of the GVCS
The origins of GVCS date back to 2003 when the Walkersville ministerium (clergy from the local churches) suggested an umbrella organization be formed to oversee and coordinate community outreach efforts in the Walkersville and Woodsboro area.
The effort was spearheaded by the Reverend Gerry Hanberry, pastor of Glade United Church of Christ at the time. Glade Valley Community Services was formed in 2004. GVCS was granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in September 2005. Direction and oversight of GVCS is provided by a nine-member Board of Directors.
GVCS operates a number of programs and sponsors / participates in a number of activities; some on a year-round basis. All current programs are listed on the Programs and Services tab.
